Banepa is the historical town with the many temples, old traditions and cultures. In the boundary of three municipalities of Kavrepalanchowk District, namely; Banepa, Dhulikhel and Panauti, the main attraction of this town is Chandeswori temple, Dhaneshwor temple, old town surrounded by 8 Ganesh temples with 8 adjacent ponds and Phalchaa. Chandeswori Temple is one of the main attractions of the town. It is believed to have been built in the 17th century Legend credits Chandeshwori as the slayer of the demon Chanda, for which she is widely regarded throughout Nepal. The temple consists of the painting of lord bhairav on one of its wall which is the biggest graffiti of Nepal. Chandeswori jatra is celebrated in the honour of the victory over Chandasur(demon) where it is on the full moon day of the New Year's festival. Panauti is a municipality in Kavrepalanchok District in Bagmati Province of Nepal located 5km Southeast of the Banepa. The town is currently listed as a UNESCO tentative site since 1996.
